New Website for Sylvan Rocks Climbing!!

rainbow over the black hills

In 2006 Cheryl and I became the 3rd owners of Sylvan Rocks Climbing School and Guide Service.  Seems like yesterday…seems like forever ago.  This will be our 3rd website rebuild since then.  Technology changes and so does Sylvan Rocks Climbing.   Not nearly as fast though.  Our programs have changed only slightly since 2006, but my cell phone has changed pretty dramatically.  We have simplified the offerings at Sylvan Rocks since taking over, but really, we do all the same basic things.  We can take guest out for some top rope climbing or shoot for the summits and go for a 6 hour day as someones first day on the rocks in hopes of getting in a few high points on the granite around Sylvan Lake in Custer State Park or Mount Rushmore or Devils Tower, or Palisades State Park.

Speaking of Custer State Park, they have continued to be awesome partners in this adventure.   The granite climbing area within the park and towards Black Elk Peak is known to rock climbers the world around as The Needles.  The rock is rather unique.  Formed deep under the earths surface, pushed up with the Rocky Mountain Uplift then exposed by the elements as the softer layers above the granite eroded away over many many eons, we are left with an amazing climbing area.

Add to that, the rock at Mount Rushmore, the limestone in Spearfish Canyon and near Rapid City, plus the famous Devils Tower(of Power) National Monument and the sweet quartzite of Palisades State Park and we are pretty darn lucky around here with all the great rocks to climb on.  I guess there is a reason we live here.

We hope you enjoy the new site and we hope to keep offering great rock climbing adventures for many years to come.
