The places that you get to go down there are beyond imagination, and the geologic processes at work will blow your mind if you sit around down there in the total darkness and think about them to long. If you'd like to see some neat pictures of some formations in Jewel Cave, that Cheryl took on her first multi day Jewel Cave Camp Trip check out our Picasa Site. Caving can be a pretty low tech sport as you might notice in Michael Rays photos. Helmet, lights, knee and elbow pads, plus grunting and effort yield rewards that are awe inspiring. It also might not look that dangerous at first glance, but I consider it the most dangerous sports I do. With kayaking, mountain biking or skiing, EMS and life flight can be there very quickly. When you are 11 hours away from the hole you started at...through tiny crawl ways and climbs, with no radio or cell phone, a sprained wrist can become life threatening. If you aren't mobil, all bets are off. So with that in mind, go caving with a qualified trip leader if you ever get the chance. Have fun...take only pictures and memories.

Learning to fish
Daryl Stisser - Friday, January 29, 2010
Well its live. The site is up in all its glory. All dressed up and
nowhere to go. I'm sure there are typos, and some people will find the
colors to be odd, but it looks nice on the monitor I use. It should be
a little easier to find things and learn about our courses, and that
was the goal...plus the blog, slide shows, and videos will be coming
soon. Please let me know what you think. Send me an email, post here
or on the Sylvan Rocks Facebook Fan Page. Still lots of photos to add
and links to things like the FB page link, but its time for a little
climbing break.
Its been a long time since I had to learn that much in such a short time. All these computer skills that I never expected to know. I have to thank Scary Larry Schaffer for all his help and instruction. Everyone knows the old proverb about feeding a man for a day vs teaching a man to fish so he can feed his family every day....well, Larry taught me how to fish.
Besides climbing and caving, Larry does some rad things with computers...just check out the Black Hills Institute Website out, watch the video, I'm sure Larry had a lot to do with producing it??? It is an awesome place, and Larry really helps put it and the town of Hill City on the Map.
Thanks again Larry.
